The Institute for Research in Irish Historical and Cultural Traditions is based at NUI Maynooth. The research focus in the Institute is on Digital Humanities and Digital Humanities education. Specialisms include digital repository development, digital textual studies and teaching and learning within virtual research environments. An Foras Feasa runs a number of teaching programmes at undergraduate and graduate level including the MA in Digital Humanities, which was the first of its kind in Ireland. The Institute also participates in the inter-institutional Digital Arts and Humanities PhD programme, the largest structured PhD programme in Europe. Other major research projects underway in the Institute include the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) project where An Foras Feasa is responsible for requirements analysis and software engineering for the data management layer.
