Description
This course explores a selection of major questions and debates surrounding the relationship between society and culture on one hand, and digital media on the other. Possible topics include social media, collective action, censorship, automation, knowledge economy, digital art, video games, and artificial intelligence. Students will be introduced to key moments in the history of computing and notable differences between new (hypertext, wiki, social media, virtual reality, cloud storage, etc.) and legacy media (newspaper, radio, television, film, etc.) to develop an appreciation for digital technology and the ongoing digital transformation of society.
