Description
What is a literary character from the point of view of a computer, Why Baudelaire's originality does not stand up when using a program to read a thousands poems from the XIXth century? On the basis of on-going research projects, this seminar introduces students to "distant reading", PCA, and other digital methods for analyzing literary texts (eg. textometry). It insists on the conceptual and epistemological problems raised by the use of computers and digital methods to analyze literary texts.
