Description
Digital environment is rapidly changing the traditional framework in the studies of literature and culture: from the new ways of storing and representing cultural data to the automated text analysis, computer modelling of cultural processes and emergence of new, data-sensitive theories (as the theory of cultural evolution). During the course, it is planned to discuss the problem of digital archive and digital edition of text; the history of quantitative methods in the humanities and literary criticism; their applications today within different fields in the light of "big data" ("culturomics", "cinemetrics", "cliodynamics", the studies of long-term change in literature and music); approaches to data visualization; as well as the theories that underlie new "distant reading" practices.
