Description
This is an introductory course in quantitative methods implemented in the programming language R . It is directed to students and scholars in humanities and social sciences, with a focus on linguistics research. We provide an introduction to statistical modeling, with a focus on humanities, and in particular in linguistic research. We start by introducing conceptual background on general strategies on modeling and basics of statistical thinking. Then, we focus on the most relevant methods for quantitative analysis and modelling, namely regression, classification, and hypothesis testing. We also introduce more advanced (not meaning harder!), altough essential techniques such as multilevel models.
